Phragmites Fest Volunteers Needed
Aug 23, 2016

 Notice: Phragmites fest volunteers needed

Our annual volunteer foray to treat invasive phragmites is scheduled for 9 AM Saturday 24 Sep. Meet at the east side boat ramp for training and assignment to either the land or water work team.

Everyone is welcome.  We will train you and supply the gloves, transportation and herbicide. Estimated time for completion of this task is about 4 hours.

This year CLAA volunteers only need to teat areas along the east and south shore. One team will tackle a large inland patch and some small areas along the road.  The other team will work along the shore and will be getting their feet wet so dress accordingly. An old pair of tennies that can withstand water and muck exposure are best.

The treatment is accomplished by spraying the herbicide onto a cotton glove you will wear over a protective kitchen glove.  You will then grasp the plant and swipe from the base up to the top to distribute the herbicide. If done properly you should have minimal exposure to the chemical but you should wear old clothes, hat and if you have sensitive eyes bring safety glasses.

Please send an e-mail to Mark mpweisse@yahoo.com  if you can attend.  We hope to have 8-10 volunteers.
